Rob Ferguson is currently the Director and Program Coordinator for Performing Arts,
serving both Matrix Independent World and Matrix Independent Open Percussion
Ensembles. Rob also serves as the music designer for Matrix and has since its
inception in 1999. In addition, Rob also serves as the Percussion Arranger and
Percussion Caption Coordinator for the Phantom Regiment from Rockford, Illinois. Rob
served as the Percussion Coordinator and Percussion Arranger for the Glassmen Drum
and Bugle Corps from Toledo, Ohio, from 2008-2012. Rob has served as a percussion
representative for the Mideast Performance Association and currently serves as the
Percussion Education Director for the Ohio Indoor Performance Association and as a
member of the WGI Percussion Advisory Board. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science and
Master of Music in Music Performance from Kent State University where he studied with
Michael Burritt and Ted Rounds. He previously served as adjunct percussion faculty
and assistant marching band director at Youngstown State University, and currently is
the Design Coordinator for Firestone High School and Norton High School bands in
Northeast Ohio, and the Program Coordinator for the Central Crossing High School
Marching Band from Grove City, OH.
Rob is an active clinician and adjudicator for both the indoor and outdoor marching
activities. He has presented clinics on marching percussion, keyboard percussion,
arranging, and amplification in the marching activity throughout the U.S. and in Europe
including the 2007 PAS convention, the 2008 Indoor Percussion Europe
Championships, and as a part of the 2016 Chiayi City International Band Festival in
Chiayi City, Taiwan. Ferguson has also performed as a marimba clinician and guest
artist with numerous high schools and college percussion ensembles.
In addition to teaching, Rob works professionally as a designer, composer, program
coordinator, and consultant for outdoor and indoor marching ensembles throughout the
U.S. and abroad. He is the owner of Ferguson Design Solutions, a company providing
custom arrangements, original compositions, consulting, and design resources for
marching bands, drum corps, and indoor percussion ensembles in all major arenas of
the pageantry arts. Rob currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Rob is an endorser
and clinician for Mapex & Majestic Percussion, Innovative Percussion, the Avedis
Zildjian Co., Planet Waves, Pageantry Innovations, and Remo Inc.
Thomas Sparling is a full-time visual designer and percussion educator based out of Southwest Ohio. He received degrees in Music Education, Music Performance, Music Composition and a minor in Arts Management from Miami University in 2009. Since graduating he has served as a percussion instructor at William Mason HS, Centerville HS, Bellbrook HS, Kettering Fairmont HS, and Percussion Director at Northmont HS, and La Salle HS. He currently works with Kings HS in Cincinnati, OH.
He has taught privately since 2005, and has worked on the instructional staff at the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2012), Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps (2015-2016), Cap City Percussion (2013-2014, 2019), Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2019) and Matrix Performing Arts (2013-present). Since pursuing full-time design in 2016, he has expanded his reach to organizations in Indiana, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, and Italy.
Thomas marched bass drum with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2006), and Rhythm X (2006-2009). He has given clinics on show design and rehearsal techniques across the Midwest as well as Taiwan and Italy. Thomas is an endorser of Mapex & Majestic percussion, Remo drum heads, and Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
Evan Brown is an active sound and amplification designer in the pageantry arts, residing in Pittsburgh, PA. Evan is currently a Sound Designer and/or audio systems consultant for many groups across the US, currently including Phantom Regiment, The Cadets, Matrix Performing Arts, Fusion Core, and many others. He is also the staff sound designer for Ferguson Design Solutions, a company providing arrangements, original compositions, consulting and design resources for marching bands, drum corps and indoor percussion ensembles in all major arenas of the pageantry arts. He has previously held similar positions with Dartmouth HS, Oregon Crusaders, Cap City Percussion, OCindoor, The Glassmen, and many others. Additionally, he is also currently the Percussion Coordinator and Assistant Band Director at North Allegheny High School in Wexford, PA.
Evan holds a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Music from Slippery Rock University, where he performed and participated in a wide variety of ensembles, focusing most specifically on drum set, studying under Dr. David Glover. During the day, Evan is the EDU Market Manager for Presonus Audio Electronics.
Ryan Reed is a percussion educator and designer from the Northeast Ohio
area. He is currently the Director of Percussion for New Philadelphia HS,
Carrollton HS, and Licking Valley HS. Additionally, Ryan serves as a front
ensemble instructor for Matrix (2013-present) and Matrix Open (2016-
present). 2018 also marks Ryan’s first year as front ensemble arranger for
the Sunrisers Drum and Bugle Corps (DCA), and as a front ensemble
instructor for Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps (DCI). Previously, Ryan
served as the front ensemble arranger for the Skyliners’ Drum and Bugle
Corps (2016-17) as well as front ensemble instructor for the Empire
Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2009), Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps
(2012), Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2015) and front
ensemble instructor/coordinator for Capital City Percussion (2013-15).
Ryan received a B.M. in Music Education from Kent State University where
he studied percussion with Ted Rounds. As a performer in the marching arts,
Ryan was a front ensemble member of Matrix Percussion from 2006-2008,
taking part in the ensembles European tour in 2008. He was also a member
of the Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2007 and 2009, and the
Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps in 2008. In 2016, Ryan performed with
Matrix International for the 2016 Chaiayi City International Band Festival in
Chiayi City, Taiwan.
In addition to teaching, Ryan is a designer for Downbeat Percussion and
Ferguson Design Solutions. Ryan is also an endorser for Innovative
Percussion and Ludwig-Musser Percussion.
Cory Doran is currently Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Texas A&M University- Commerce, Front Ensemble instructor for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and Ensemble Instructor for Matrix Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble. Cory received his Masters degree (2011) in Music Performance from Texas A&M University Commerce under the instruction of Dr. Brian Zator and his Undergraduate degree (2009) in Music Performance from Youngstown State University under the instruction of Dr. Glenn Schaft.
Previously, Cory held the position as Interim Professor of Percussion at Kent State University. He has instructed throughout northeast Ohio, northeast Texas, and Pittsburgh as a front ensemble specialist as well as concert percussion and drum set clinician. As a teacher, he has made a name for himself as a front ensemble instructor for Matrix Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble (2009- present), the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps (2015- present), and Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2009-2011).
In addition to his involvement in education, Cory is also a freelance percussionist and composer/arranger. He has written for Hilliard Bradley, y-Me Percussion group in Milan, Italy, Revelation Indoor Percussion, Amhurst High School Indoor Percussion, Impulse Indoor Percussion, Texas A&M University- Commerce marching percussion section, and Grove City High School front ensemble. Performing groups include the Columbus top 40 band “The Popbillies,” Country band “Union Rose,” and “Tangent Impact Percussion Project.”

Jen Crabtree is a creative dreamer and doer with over 15 years of professional experience in design and marketing communications. She works and plays in the areas of graphic and visual design, storytelling, identity, publication design, product design, environmental design, interactive design, production design, pagentry graphics and performance art – anywhere imagination and skill take her to achieve solutions and have fun.
Jen has worked with a variety of groups including: Matrix Percussion, Artistry in Blue, Central Crossing High School, Goshen High School, Victor J. Andrews High School, Firestone High School, Norton High School, Revere High School, Crestwood High School and Nordonia High School. Jen is also the Senior Designer at a boutique marketing communications company that services a wide variety of B2B, B2C and non-profit clients.
With a BA in Visual Communication and a minor in Dance from Kent State University, along with years of participation in instrumental music groups, Jen is well suited to contribute design experience and skills to enhance a visual experience or performance and can help you bring it to the next level – whether you are in need of a concept, production art or something in between.
